Dark chocolate creme infused with peppermint essential oil. Instead of flavorings and cane syrup, these are made with pure, medicinal essential oil and love!

The candy cane began as an all-white, straight, sugar treat, and is believed to have been invented by French priests in the early part of the 15th century. The colored stripe and flavor were added much later in the candy cane’s history!

While the origin of peppermint candy is unclear, historical accounts show that peppermint oils have been used since ancient times to calm the stomach and for other remedies. Farmers in Europe began commercially growing the plant, which is a natural cross between watermint and spearmint, in the late 1700s. It’s easy to overlook peppermint health benefits… everyone knows about peppermint!

Peppermint shines as an herb that helps with digestion in a myriad of ways.

Have a tummy ache? Try some peppermint. Have a nervous stomach? Peppermint. Gas and bloating after a meal? You guessed it… have some peppermint!

Peppermint is often referred to as a stimulating herb. It’s easy to envision coffee or tea when we talk about stimulating nervines since we know the caffeine content gives us that noticeable zing of temporary energy. And while peppermint doesn’t have the caffeine jolt, it does promote alertness.

It has also long been used to address fevers that accompany the flu as it opens the pores of the body, allowing the heat to escape and making it a great choice for fevers when the person is restless and feels hot. A traditional western herbal formula is the combination of elder flowers, peppermint and yarrow. Peppermint essential oil can also be inhaled to break up congestion in the lungs.

Peppermint can be applied externally as well to relieve pain and soothe toothaches, sunburns, poison oak/ivy, and hives! It can also ease tonic muscles. It can be used for menstrual cramps or a sore back. Have a tension headache? Try a poultice of peppermint over your forehead or at the base of your neck.
